Atelier: A Relaxing Cultural Retreat

Atelier in Playa Mujeres is an ideal resort for the traveler that prefers a more secluded and luxurious vacation. This property provides a scenic, boutique experience for those who wish to rest and relax while diving into a rich celebration of Mexican culture. As a small business owner, I understand how important it is to support local communities, and Atelier enables you to do just that.

The Culture 

This resort showcases a rich Mexican culture. Featured in each of the rooms are paintings and artwork by local artists. Previously, I studied culture and ethnolinguistics, so it is definitely appealing to me when I see a resort place so much emphasis on celebrating a region’s heritage and uniqueness. This was one of the reasons I initially chose to stay at this resort, and they did nothing but exceed my expectations. 

Many resorts in this region offer tequila tastings. However, just like the other elements of this resort, Atelier’s tastings go in depth to show an appreciation for the surrounding communities. The tequila tasting guide was very knowledgeable and excited to share the history and process of tequila-making. Rather than promoting specific tequila brands, there was an emphasis on the heritage behind the tequila. 

The Amenities 

Unlike many resorts in this region, Atelier is outside of the main hotel zone. The property is very secluded and feels as if it is in its own private jungle. Despite the secluded feel, the property boasts beautiful golf-course and ocean views, even if you opt to stay in a lower room category. 

This resort has a very luxe ambiance to it. The rooms have an open concept floor plan, tall ceilings, large soaking tubs, and walk-in showers with rain heads. One luxurious element that stood out was the motion censored lights underneath the beds that automatically switched on if you had to get out of bed during the night. It truly is the little details that make this resort a unique one to visit.  

The Entertainment 

In addition to the wonderful in-room amenities, the entertainment provided at the resort was also a highlight that provided even more insight into the Mexican roots that this resort was founded on. Atelier provides entertainment in a very intimate setting, with local musicians and dancers taking the stage. The type of entertainment that this resort provides showcases the rich cultural tapestry of the region, offering guests a unique and immersive experience that goes beyond a typical resort entertainment lineup. 

The Staff 

Atelier’s staff was also exceptional, taking care of everything we could possibly need. We chose to stay at this resort for our intimate wedding ceremony and the event planning experience was nothing but pleasant. While our wedding was small, we were able to see larger celebrations happening throughout our stay at the property and I can safely say that no matter the event size, the Atelier staff makes sure that you are well taken care of.  

Overall, Atelier in Playa Mujeres provides a unique charm spanning from its appreciation of culture to its secluded, yet picturesque location. My experience exceeded expectations, leaving me with cherished memories of a truly immersive and unforgettable escape to the heart of Mexican heritage.
