How to get a chance for a Rise of the Resistance boarding group when there are no park reservations for Hollywood Studios

Does your family love Star Wars? Are you excited about trying the newest Star Wars attraction at Walt Disney World, Rise of the Resistance?! With limited capacity at Disney World this year, guests are now required to have both a Park Reservation and valid admission for that park—for each day you'd like to visit. This is the biggest reason you need to plan your vacation early! The park reservation calendar fills up during popular times of the year and some parks become unavailable. Hollywood Studios is usually the first park to do so.
So, what if you weren’t fast enough with your planning, and now there are no park reservations available for Hollywood Studios during your vacation? Can you upgrade to a park hopper ticket to solve your problem?
Disney’s website says “Remember, Guests who are interested in experiencing Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance must make a Disney Park Pass reservation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios®. Guests will only be able to access the virtual queue system if they have a Disney Park Pass reservation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios® on the day of their visit.”
What they are telling you is that you can’t park hop to Hollywood Studios and expect to get the opportunity for Rise of the Resistance boarding pass. The reason being because park hopping isn’t allowed until 2pm, while boarding groups are released at 7am and 1pm... and gone in 1 second flat. By the time you would be able to “hop”, all of the boarding passes would be gone.
You might be thinking...
“But there were no park pass reservations available for Hollywood studios when we tried to book. Does this mean that there’s no chance of us being able to ride Rise of the Resistance?”
Well, good news from your friends here at Sojourney Travel!
There is still a chance. Many people will check for a boarding group at 7 AM, and if they cannot get one they will cancel their park reservation for Hollywood studios. This means that you should check for theme park reservation availability after 7 AM, on the day that you would like to visit Hollywood studios. If there is availability for a park pass, then you can attempt to get a boarding group at 1pm, when Disney releases the second group of boarding passes for the day.
